Camp ABCs
Addiction Prevention
The responsible use of alcohol is a big concern of ours. We will not serve alcohol at camp until after 6:00 pm. Youth over 16 years of age and leaders with the appropriate camp neckerchief can purchase and consume alcohol. There will be no serving of hard liquor (nor the serving of “alcopops”). To bring alcoholic beverages to camp is prohibited. We will abide by the Upper Austrian youth protection act.
Arrival and Departure
Participants will arrive at the camp on August 5, 2008 and depart on August 14, 2008.
ATM/Money Exchange
The closest facilities for cash withdrawals and currency exchanges are in the city center of St. Georgen at the following banks: Volksbank, Sparkasse, Raiffeisenbank, PSK. Payments of camp fees can be made in the administration office with an ATM card (Maestro card with code), a credit card (MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Diners) or in cash.
The Shop and any food booths only accept cash.
Cell Phones
Generally speaking all available cell phone networks in Austria will have reception at the camp ground. For information about charging your cell phone, see à Charging Station.
Charging Station
You can charge your cell phones or similar devices in an electrical outlet at the Shop for a small fee. While doing so, your device will be safely stored in a locker.
Climate
The ‘Attergau’ region is a popular vacation spot. Please count on very sunny and hot days in August (above 25°C / 75°F) as well as heavy rains and cooling off periods (to under 10°C / 50°F). Please take note to bring appropriate waterproof and warm gear as well as good footwear.
Credit Cards
Payments of camp fees can be made in the administration office with an ATM card (Maestro card with code), a credit card (MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Diners) or in cash.
The Shop and any food booths only accept cash.
Curfew
Starting at 11:00 pm the camp observes "Silent Mode". This means no music can be played outdoors any more. In Guides & Scouts vicinity all the food tents will only play music until 11:00 pm. Generally, no music will be allowed any more after midnight. Curfew will be effective at 2:00 am (last food order placed at 1:00 am).
Dogs
Bringing a dog to the camp ground is forbidden. On Visitor Sunday, dogs may be permitted on the campground with a leash and muzzle only. Dog waste must be removed immediately by the dog owner.
Drinking Water
Austrian tap water is considered high quality drinking water and can be consumed without reservation. However we do discourage the consumption of water from lakes and streams. Grocery stores offer a wide variety of mineral water with or without carbonation.
Drugs
The Austrian substance abuse law will be in force. The sale, possession or consumption of illegal drugs is prohibited and will have consequences.
Electricity
Electricity will only be available in the tents of the sub-camp leaders. The usual voltage is 230 Volt, AC.
Equipment
You will need tents and cooking equipment to prepare meals at an open fire for your troop. We can only provide equipment in special circumstances. If you really have no way to bring your own cooking utensils, please let us know as soon as possible by contacting us at
office(at)aqua2008.at!
First Aid / Emergency
A red-cross ambulance will be available around the clock. At certain times there will be an additional first aid station in the Guides & Scouts area.
Flags
Flags, especially traditional ones, have exceptional meaning for the scout troops. The flags are posted between the hours of 8:30 am and 8:00 pm and are to be retrieved each night. The swiping of flags is considered theft unless the undamaged flag is arranged to be returned to its original owner immediately. Property damage is not considered to be a trivial offense and will be prosecuted.
Freedom from Limitations
We are trying our hardest to provide freedom from limitations in any aspect of AQUA! 2008. However, if you have a specific need, just let us know what exactly it is you require.
Hygiene articles
The Shop sells a variety of hygiene articles (such as tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant, etc.).
Illness
A red-cross ambulance will be available around the clock. At certain times there will be an additional first aid station in the Guides & Scouts area. We highly recommend to bring your E-Card (international insurance card) with you to camp. Please state chronic illnesses during registration ahead of time, so help can arrive faster in case of an emergency.
Languages
Camp languages will be German and English. We will provide a contact for further core languages such as French and Spanish to aid our foreign participants.
Male / Female
AQUA! 2008’s program adheres to the coed rules and PPÖ gender laws. Naturally, separate sanitary facilities will be provided. Sleeping arrangements will be left up to the discretion of the individual troops.
Scout Museum
The Scout Museum will run an information booth at the camp ground.
Smoking
Smoking at camp is only permitted in specified smoking areas. In eating areas, smokers and non-smokers will be in separate tents.
Stamps
You can acquire stamps at the Shop. The Austrian Stamp Collectors Guild will run an information booth at the AQUA! 2008.
Swimming
You will want to bring your swimming suits for sure! You’ll have the chance to quickly cool off in the ‘Ager’, a small stream, which runs through the camp ground. The ‘Attersee’ (local lake) is in very close proximity and offers several public beaches and lidos. The duties of supervising swimmers and non-swimmers are left to the responsible leader.
Vehicles
After conferring with the sub-camp directors, it will be possible to drive into the camp ground with your vehicle in order to load and unload materials. Otherwise vehicles must remain in the designated parking area outside the camp ground for the duration of the entire camp.
Vitamin Islands
In your sub-camps Vitamin Islands with fresh fruits and vegetables will be at your disposal.
Wasps
In case you should find wasps or hornets at camp, please don’t disturb or destroy the nest. If you do, these insects will react very aggressively. Stay away from the area and inform your sub-camp leaders - specialists for such cases will be available.
