Caravelles and Explorer
Die Caravelles (Mädchen) und Explorer (Jungs) sind die dritte Altersstufe (13 - 16) bei den PfadfinderInnen. Am AQUA! 2008 begeben sie sich – zumindest thematisch – in die trockensten Regionen der Erde, die Wüsten. Obwohl diese Landschaft uns Menschen viel Mut abverlangt, birgt sie so manches Wunder in sich. Kleine grüne Inseln – Oasen – voller Leben, Handel und Arbeit aber auch Glück, Lachen und Freunde. Oft angesteuert von Karawanen, welche die Verbindung zur Außenwelt darstellen und oft von einer der erstaunlichsten Lebensformen getragen werden, die unsere Mutter Erde zu bieten hat: dem Kamel.
The 3rd age range of the Austrian Scouts anf Guides are the Caravlles and Explorers (CaEx: 13 - 16). During the AQUA! 2008 days they - symbolically – spend their time in the driest regions of the world: the deserts. Even though this landscape challenges the courage of us humans, it also hides a few miracles. Small, green islands – oases – full of life, trade and labor, even good fortune, laughter and joy. Oftentimes oases are the destination of caravans, which represent the connection to the outside world and are often carried by one of the most incredible life forms mother earth has to offer:

So werden diese stolzen – und manchmal auch störrischen – Tiere gern genannt, weil sie sanft und majestätisch durch die Dünen gleiten und den Menschen auf ihrer Reise Schutz bieten und so lautet auch das Motto des Caravelle und Explorer-Stufenlagers. Denn: Wo Wasser fehlt bzw. knapp oder stark verunreinigt ist und in diesem Zustand sogar zum Auslöser von Seuchen werden kann, gibt es kaum wichtigeres als reines Trinkwasser und dass der Mensch mit diesem Geschenk verantwortungsvoll umgeht. Und gerade in diesem Bereich kann er viel von den Kamelen lernen: tage- ja sogar wochenlang kommen sie mit den gespeicherten Vorräten aus, jeder Tropfen wird verwertet, nichts verschwendet.
Wasser, seine Erscheinungsformen, der verantwortungsvolle und bewusste Umgang mit dem Rohstoff Wasser bilden einen Schwerpunkt unseres 
Stufenlager-Programmes, und so kann man sich dann auch unseren Programmablauf vorstellen wie die Entwicklung eines Flusses von seiner Quelle bis zur Mündung ins Meer.
The camel, ship of the desert.
That’s what these proud and sometimes quite stubborn animals are called, because of their gentle and majestic way of gliding over dunes and providing protection for humans on their journey. “The Camel, Ship of the Desert” is also the motto of the Guides & Scouts camp. Because wherever water is rare, there is a lack thereof or it is highly polluted, in which case it can even become the trigger of an epidemic, there is hardly a more important issue than pure drinking water and humans dealing with this gift responsibly. In this regard, man can learn many things from a camel: for days and even weeks it can ration its water supply, every drop is used and nothing wasted.
Water, its manifestation, and the responsible and conscious use of our water resources are the focal point of our age-group specific program. And that’s how you have to picture our program course, just like the course of a river from its spring all the way to where it flows into the ocean.
